AgileLaw was founded in early 2012 by former litigation attorney and entrepreneur Cyclone Covey and former Deloitte consultant and technology executive Thomas Allen.
Cyclone and Thomas met at Wake Forest University, where they competed in intercollegiate debate and took Computer Science classes together. After they graduated in 2000, Cyclone went on to earn his law degree in 2003 from Wake Forest and returned to Atlanta; Thomas returned to Austin to develop software and earn his MBA from the University of Texas McCombs School of Business in 2006.
After discussing various business opportunities for several years (since they were freshman in college), the two finally joined forces to take advantage of the legal industry’s rapid adoption of tablet devices. Friend and company advisor Wes Lotz (also a former Wake Forest debater) suggested focusing on the problem of managing document exhibits faced by litigation attorneys, and he promised to be their first customer.
Soon after the company’s inception, Thomas and Cyclone were joined by a former colleague and seasoned technology professional Tony Forma, previously the Director of Development at NextGen Healthcare, to head up the development and architecture of the product.
AgileLaw’s headquarters is located in Austin, Texas, home to the Texas Longhorns and the live music capital of the world.
